2.4G & 5G simultaneously

I just stumbled across your software as I was looking for an easier software to run a pi router using my Rpi4B as i have bot 2.4g & 5g devices. Does your software off simultaneous dual band?

So there’s a single radio on the Pi (that’s true of both Raspberry Pi 4 or 5) that can broadcast in either 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz (by default it broadcasts in 5Ghz)

But, if using PiFi with PiFi Kit, because that adds an additional radio it’s possible to broadcast both 5Ghz (USB) and 2.4Ghz (internal) providing two bands

Man i really wish I found out about it sooner i would have purchased the item. i alread purchased a bunch of items to build this project . If I have my own 2.4Gh dongle would it work?

Possibly!

If the PiFi Kit isn’t used then PiFi broadcasts a 5Ghz network by default (certainly faster on Pi 5 when using internal one)

Then, assuming that the 2.4Ghz USB you have is supported by mainline OpenWrt then if you go to 192.168.3.14 in browser (or Settings > More Settings > Advanced (LuCI) ) if using the app

Then go to Network > Wireless and you should be able to configure the 2.4Ghz as an access point (it should show the USB assuming it’s supported, I’d leave the PiFi Setup network as-is)

So although it’s not supported natively in the app it is, depending on the USB, possible to get it working - this is especially true with 2.4Ghz/150mbps etc, the higher spec USB dongles tend to lack driver support (we had to add support specifically for the PiFi one)
