Dual PiFi USB Adapters?

I’m looking at several options for building a travel Wi-Fi router with a Raspberry Pi. Here are some requirements:

  • Metal case for durability and as a heat sink
  • Supports PoE with a HAT
  • Able to connect to a Wi-Fi AP (at least Wi-Fi 6) and host an AP (at least Wi-Fi 6) at the same time

Because of the metal case, I believe the onboard Wi-Fi’s antenna may not work well. As such, I’m considering two external antennas. Therefore, my question is: will using two PiFi adapters simultaneously on the two blue USB 3.0 ports side-by-side be possible? Will they interfere with each other? Does the software / kernel support two adapters?

For PiFi

As an OS/firmware it can work for you. Metal case/heat sinks compatible with PoE HATs will exist

WiFi 6 support is not good on Pi at all, I haven’t found any with working driver support yet. The wireless AC adapter can get to 500-700mbps

I think if you need dual WiFi 6, you’re not going to find that on Pi atm. Maybe gl.inet style AX router better if that’s a hard requirement. Though they lack the versatility and CPU power of Pi.

You can use multiple adapters, you would need a good power supply though sufficient to power two USB 3.0 peripherals. Quite a lot of draw for two adapters plus HAT so cooling required for sure.
