Help setting up PiFiUSB on CM4

So I chose a CM4 Nano board due to its much smaller size, literally fits in your shirt pocket!

While Pifi worked perfectly with ethernet connection on a Raspberry Pi CM4, the PiFi USB dongle is not being recognized. I’m using the official PiFi dongle, but Phone App always show Pifi USB Required message. I tried to edit boot/config.txt to manually enable USB 2.0, knowing CM4 has USB disabled by default, still no go :frowning:

Is this due to limitation of older version of OpenWRT? Is there any plans to support CM4 hardware in the future?

Hi, yes it’s possible.

I’ll need to double check what to edit as, by default, PiFi USB is set to work on USB 3.0 - but it’s certainly editable

I’ll also look to have USB Support on CM4, CM5 and Pi400 and Pi500 without any changes necessary

I’ll test on my CM4 later today and advise what to switch, it’ll certainly be faster on the Pi4 with USB 3.0 but the form factor of the nano boards are great (wish they’d make one with USB 3.0 then it’d be close to perfect)

Greatly appreciate your fast response  Keep us posted!

It doesn’t seem to be running on CM4 for me - although my base board doesn’t have display-out to see exactly what’s happening. I’ll get a base board with display out so I can troubleshoot as I’ll need it for next firmware release anyway

For me, the included 32gb SD card from PiFi kit didn’t work on CM4, it just goes into a boot loop.

I had downloaded the latest PI4 image from your site and that one boots fine on CM4 nanoB without display.

I did some testing today, it’s running better on the latest builds of OpenWrt but they don’t support PiFi USB

So when the next stable build is released I’ll look to get a build out that’s fully compatible.
