I tried to change layout, so I installed luci themes available. Unfortunately, any of them made unavailable luci in browser - I see only ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED
I uninstalled all 3 theme packages via ssh - did not help.
I replaced /etc/config/luci by backupped file - did not help.
I deleted up related folders in /www/luci-static/ and also in /www/luci-static/resources - did not help
After any single trial I did the reboot.
When I try to open webpage with luci, I can see for short time the default link “LuCi - Lua Configuration Interface” but it comes again and again to the same error page. I’m in stuck
Rpi 5 8 GB
Of course, I can reset back to the initial state (as I did approx. 20 times due another failures caused misconfiguration that cannot be solved by package uninstall & revert back config file) but I would like to know what to do next time
Pi 5 is stable for all the bundled features (wireless, AdGuard Home, Wireguard, OpenVPN, Samba (NAS), drivers incl. PiFi Kit, fan support, USB drivers etc)
Beyond that, when it comes to installing custom packages/drivers/OpenWrt modifications - Pi 5 builds (both at PiFi and at OpenWrt have snapshot status) - this means it’s still considered in-development and can have bugs. That’s the nature of snapshot builds - so the PiFi one is more tested for all the above features but beyond that (for OpenWrt packages) it may have some issues.
I’d encourage back-ups, it may be certain plug-ins are not supported. The next major release of OpenWrt (which will move it from snapshot to release for Pi 5) is pretty soon - 2024 anyway I’d expect and there only is weeks left.
So the options when making customizations to OpenWrt whilst on Snapshot are largely keep backups/restore if misconfigured or wait for a stable build. Alternatively, if you have a Raspberry Pi 4 it has stable status already.
You are absolutely right. It’s not stable release for rpi, it’s snapshot - a minefield for too curious openwrt newbie as me
I’m currently waiting for delivery of openwrt compatible USB wifi7 module because those I have are unuseful Realtek, so I will spend this time prioritising disaster recovery topics.
I want to say big thanks for your time and energy in PiFi you saved me and showed me the direction for learning of linux
