Introducing PiFi 1.5.2 (Beta) 🥳 [All Pi 5 Models]

1.5.2 brings support for all Pi 5 devices (including newer devices such as Pi 5 2Gb or 16Gb models and newer bootloaders), it also brings mainline OpenWrt support with 24.10.1 and kernel 6.6 and a reworked wireless driver.

What’s New

  • Support for Raspberry Pi 5 (2Gb + 16Gb versions) and improved support for 8Gb on newer bootloaders
  • Based on OpenWrt 24.10.1 Support (no longer Snapshot)
  • Updated kernel (6.6.x)
  • Improved wireless driver (reworked for new kernel)
  • This one is for Pi 5-only (the Pi4-version and other updates are in the works, but due to new Pi 5 models and bootloaders this update is being pushed early)

Known Issues :warning:
2.4G has an issue, app update being pushed to fix.

Available Now for Pi 5 :+1:
This build replaces the Pi 5 release build at pifi.org/downloads

As it has mainline OpenWrt support, a newer kernel, new bootloader support, adds support for Pi 5 (2Gb + 16Gb) - it makes sense for this to be the release version from day 1.

More on the Way (including Pi 4, more devices + new features)
There’s a new build in the works for Pi 4/CM4/Pi400 (and some other updates for Pi 5 including Pi500/CM5 support) but it needs a little bit more time. This release was more urgent for Pi 5 due to the snapshot build becoming less supported so it’s arriving early.

How to download it

  • :scream_cat: You can alternatively download the system-upgrade version at Github which preserves your current setup (clean install may work better - depends on your configuration).
  • :calling: Soon it’ll be available to update firmware via the app (coming weeks)

Bug Reporting :bug:

  • Known issue: 2.4 Mode Quirks (App Update Being Pushed)
  • Notice others? Report a Bug

Pro Tip: Backup :cloud_with_lightning:
You can back-up by visiting 192.168.3.14 and going to System → Backup / Flash Firmware. Then choosing → Backup / Restore → ‘Download backup’.

You can then restore at System → Backup / Flash Firmware. Then choosing → Backup / Restore → ‘Restore backup’

I’ll try and reply to individual threads soon to update those who asked, from a quick glance I can see this was requested by @Thomas @Wjstein @schad @lance1990 @wingnut recently on the forum

There’s an email list too for this so will send those emails out Monday. But it’s available to download now from link above or at pifi.org/downloads.
