My pi ain’t pi’n

So da pi has da PiFi thingy and when a start it it goes red then green after a bit then red.i also don’t have the kit. It’s also a pi5 4gb. help.

So the LED being red then flashing green every 60 seconds or so sounds correct

Can I ask Does PiFi 5 Setup appear in WiFi Settings? (default pass Raspberry314)

I’ll link the guide here - PiFi Docs - Download & Setup Guide (but based on LED colour it seems normal at least)

well it did but i changed its name and then it doesent, so i have to flash ubuntu and then flash pifi for it to work

Which version of Pi? (4/5)

And was it via the app or via OpenWrt / LuCI (the name/SSID change)?

EDIT: Also you shouldn’t have to flash another OS just to flash PiFi.

Instead you could connect Pi to a monitor and with a keyboard enter firstboot -y then reboot

It should then be reset to default PiFi 5 Setup (default pass Raspberry314) - if having issues changing name/SSID via app - you can also do it via 192.168.3.14

I had a similar situation. Turns out the password I assigned when I changed the wifi name via the app was too short. Probably caused some sort of issue. I then logged via LuCi which was were I saw the password issue. Updated the password to something longer with both letters and numbers. No issue since then.

So I was using the app on my phone but I had the pi connected to the monitor and nothing ever came up even while the PiFi was working

No idea why that would be - it should show on monitor just fine (maybe confirm the micro HDMI is connected or unplug/plug it back in again)

PiFi Kit has recovery options (such as remove USB to reset) but on non-PiFi Kit if can’t access wirelessly options are either:

  • reflash via computer

or (avoid reflashing by and reset via):

  • enter firstboot -y then reboot with a USB keyboard
  • or use a USB-to-ethernet adapter with a computer and reset it at 192.168.3.14
