Raspberry Pi 4 Pifi Boot Issue

I recently transferred Pifi from one device to another. During the reset process, I lost power, which caused the SD card to become corrupt. I followed the instructions in the Pifi documentation to download the Pifi image and re-flash it to the SD card.

The flashing process completed successfully, and I can access the boot partition when I connect the SD card to my PC. However, Pifi fails to boot. It seems to get partway through the boot process and then stops (see screenshot below).

To troubleshoot, I tried using another SD card and flashed the image again, but I’m encountering the same issue. I also flashed Raspbian to my own SD card, and it works perfectly, indicating that the card is functioning properly.

Hardware: Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB) with Pifi Kit
Image used: Pifi Raspberry Pi Image

I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to proceed from here. Thank you!

Hi,

First of all, thanks for the detailed info, very helpful!

It’s odd to see it happen on a second SD card (so maybe watch how it’s being in flashed - Raspberry Pi imager or Balena etcher recommended)

But, I do have a suggestion to fix. There’s a Universal Image - .img - (which works for both Pi4/Pi5 that recreates the partitions and then installs the firmware for your Pi . This can be useful if there’s a partition that hangs around or is corrupted which prevents a clean install.

So download from our docs here, then flash via Balena/Raspberry Pi imager and allow a couple of minutes longer to boot as it recreates the partitions etc too. I’d suggest disconnecting any peripherals such as the keyboard / mouse or USB (excluding PiFi USB which can stay) during first boot

Please let me know if that solves it for you!

HI,

Thanks for the quick response. I work in IT and find it very frustrating if not enough information is given. So always happy to spend a few extra minutes getting details.

I tried with both Balena Etcher and Raspberry Pi imager. On two different machines.

I will give the Universal image a go.

Thanks again.

Hi,

The Universal image has allowed me to get it back u and running again. Thank you for all your help.
