Will pifi support asus wifi dogle like this one. USB-AX56|Adapters|ASUS Global
At the moment, OpenWrt firmware (the firmware which PiFi is based on has incredibly limited driver support for USB Adapters).
PiFi firmware has added additional driver support that OpenWrt lacks for the AC1300 USB 3.0 adapter
Outside of that driver, there aren’t many other drivers supported so there’s limited adapters that would work (even some with same chipset have issues in how they’re configured)
From what I understand ASUS AX1800 doesn’t even work on latest linux kernel 6.8 (and OpenWrt is currently running 5.15) so realistically it’s probably at least a couple of years off being supported if it gets support at all
The PiFi USB AC1300 has USB 3.0, AC1300, dual-band and is about 8x faster on Pi4
PiFi runs OpenWrt so can it’s completely open if you want to try third-party USBs that don’t work with this driver but there is very limited support (here are some I’ve personally tested) - but 100% the AX1800 won’t work at all anytime soon.
For now, I’d suggest the PiFi adapter (it’s available here) - you mind find other adapters that work either with current driver or playing around with third-party drivers but the WiFi 6 won’t work anytime soon
Just as FYI, I am using this one, USB-AC58 and it works. Suppose it is due to also being a dual-band AC1300 based adaptor.
If works with PiFi firmware (and driver) almost certainly has the same chipset as the PiFi adapter (and is USB 3.0 AC1300)
Soo basically you need wifi dogle with Realtek RTL8812BU chip?
