I received my Pifi Kit couple days ago, configuring was easy. I reviewed similar topic concerning voltage and just ordered an POE Hat for my Pi4B which I hope resolves my connectivity issue. During setup when I renamed my Pi4B connection to my WiFi SSID, it ran good for a bit then notice while it losses connection and the IP reverts to original Wifi SSID. Remedy was to remove wifi SSID and re-add it to regain connectivity.
While implement Openvpn to my android phone, total loss occurs during activation of vpn.
When you say you ordered a POE hat to resolve voltage - is that because you are using a USB-to-ethernet adapter and worry that power draw is too high?

To briefly explain how reverts happen:
When the USB is detected as removed for more than 60 seconds, it reverts to original settings. This makes up for the lack of a physical reset button Raspberry Pi
If the USB was not physically removed - then one of of two things likely happened:
Either an issue/fault with the USB port (unlikely)
Or, the power supply (effectively charger) you are using is insufficient - for Pi 4 a minimum 5v3a is recommended and for Pi 5 it’s a 27W (something like this or this)
Insufficient power results in the Raspberry Pi hardware underclocking (delivering less power to the USB ports and attached accessories - which causes it to appear disconnected) and trigger the reset
**
Also the fact that it disconnects when you turn on VPN is further evidence that it’s power, VPN is more processor intensive than simple networking so if is trigger underclock it certainly sounds like power issue.
If you are using the suggested minimum power supply, as above, then I’d try a different power supply as it seems like it’s not delivering power correctly. That’s where I would start to look as it’s the most likely thing to be happening. Hopefully this provides the fix
P.S Re: Desktop App, I’m sure it will happen. Not quite sure when yet.
I received my POE Hat (B) and cannot see the Pifi adapter. Not sure what I could have done for an no response from the device. Downloaded the latest image from the site, Tried both soft/hard reboot with no success. this is what I see (1hr waiting) on display
