Will Pifi run on a Pi400?

Have a pi400 that I do not use very often, will pifi work on it…?

Haven’t got a Pi400 myself to test - but from what I read it should be totally fine running on the Pi400

It doesn’t install on top of Raspberry Pi OS etc so you’d need to just download the Pi4 version and flash it on an SD - pifi.org/downloads

Let me know how you find it

Not a problem got plenty of sd cards laying around ;-)… will of course report back

Thank you

Pifi is running on Pi400 but I can only ping pi from my desktop… I cannot find pifi on my wireless network.

Could not ssh in either…

Do I need to add a wifi usb dongle for pifi to work?

Nope, you shouldn’t need a USB dongle as it should broadcast an access point using the internal wireless (with internet coming from the ethernet cable being plugged into a router - so the port on Pi acts as WAN by default)

From what I read it’s very similar Pi4 so my assumption would’ve been it should work out of the box - but if that’s not the case I might need to wait till I get my hands on a Pi400 to test and learn more about potential differences it might need

I can get into pi400 by hooking up a screen. And I did look at some of the output… I know bridged network was not active. Might have been because I did not have ethernet cable connected.

br-lan is down

Is there a way to update system?

Ok, borrowing a Pi400 from a friend as I only have Pi4/5 - will be able to take a look during the week!

If you are in UK would have sent you mine

Thank you so much for your help

I am in UK but don’t worry!

So finally got a chance and not great news at the moment

Working:

  • Everything apart from internal wireless radio on Pi400
  • I.e works with PiFi USB Adapter broadcasting / and a WAN ethernet connection to home router

Not working:

  • Raspberry Pi internal wireless (for broadcasting or wirelessly pairing to a router)

I did a find a thread on OpenWrt forums when someone was discussing a potential fix - for next firmware build I’ll see if I can try again and place the relevant files it needs to support Pi400 but for now there is no internal wireless for the Pi400 (unless a thread like that fixes it for you)

Will try it with a usb dongle [sure I have one kicking about!]… I am grateful for you for testing it for me.

Will get back to you…

Once again thank you for your help
