Hi Paul,
Just got a PiFi kit in hand and realized that the 16GB pi 5 isn’t currently supported. Is this still pending the open wrt update? Would love to get this up and moving for my next trip.
thank you!

Yes, 24.10 was released two weeks ago by OpenWrt and our build is now in final testing
So release is imminent for that build
hey Paul,
Any update on the 16gb software release? headed out on a trip next week and wanted to use my PiFi. Game to be an alpha tester
Been trying it out, havent gotten it to work. Here is the sequence of events that just lead to a loop of rebooting, hope this helps.
I’m going to be testing specifically on Pi 5 (16Gb) this weekend, or at latest Monday so will follow up
There are new beta images - but they need tested so next couple of days. Thanks for the logs there, that is helpful - will try both the image on the docs / new images to confirm fix
hey there - wanted to see if there were any updates here. Havent tried it again since about a month ago when I’d sent through the screen shots. Let me know if i should give it another go. Thanks!!
Hi, the current test builds have a fair amount of changes over the last month including SD corruption protection, SD self-recovery (no re-flashing), improved SSD and support for new devices. A public beta of that will be just as soon as the wireless driver is fixed.
At the moment, the wireless driver is having issues on the new kernel (it’s being fixed) so it’s not yet stable. It’s the final piece before the new version is properly available
I do find that the PiFi Beta Firmware works fine though - I’ve tested on Pi5 16Gb although it seems your SD corrupted in the picture above. An .img.gz file (like the beta firmware) doesn’t always fully replace the partitions to allow recovery
This build still has issues with the USB WiFi Driver - but should otherwise be functional. The current test build has the same issue and I’m working on a fix for the driver - it’ll be available as soon as it’s done
Ok giving this another shot. I rewrote over the SD as mentioned. Is the most recent firmware update on the google drive link? It says the file is from March 11th. Ordered another SD just incase the corruption is still giving issues.
Thank you so much for your help!!
hey Paul,
Confirming the firmware works. The SD was bad. I tried to write it a couple of different ways cuz i wanted it to have the PIFI logo on it , but i think its unrecoverable. I’d grabbed a new 32gb and got it to boot and was able to connect to it. It worked initially, and i’d setup a new password and unit name, but its now having issue reconnecting. I swapped the dongle to the other port and it will work initially then drop. Thinking that I’m probably running into the WIFI drive issue you mentioned above.
Glad i got step one to work! Looking forward to the driver update.
