When is next beta release?

Hi,

I’m currently using the beta image and it’s quite similar to the stable one, but I like staying on the bleeding edge of OpenWrt builds. Do you have any info on when the next build will be released and what changes it will include?

Hi Lance, yep - next Friday (9th) I’ll publish the current build at whatever stage it is at

Things to expect:

  • New partition design (corruption protection) so SD cards become way more robust
  • Improvements in SSD handling
  • Better support for CM4, and Pi5 (2Gb/16Gb)
  • Improved wireless driver (i.e PiFi Kit improved support)

Current Limitations:

  • PiFI Kit/USB is operating at USB 2.0 speeds and not the full USB 3.0 speeds (even in blue USB port) on these beta builds. This won’t be the case in future builds - likely still the case on next Friday’s build unless a breakthrough before then. This is due to a newer kernel which requires more driver dev.

Recommendations:

  • If on Pi 4 or Pi 5 (4Gb or 8Gb models) beta is not particularly recommended - I’d stick to release builds. If using Pi 5 (2Gb, 16Gb) or CM4 this will be the best build available. Or, if you really want the newer kernel/OpenWrt.

Sweet! Sounds good will try it and report back
